Zipflat from Portable Composite Structures, Inc. has announced a joint effort with Habitat for Humanity to build a community center in Honduras in mid 2011. Donations and a volunteer build team are “ready to deploy” says PCS.
Honduras is the third poorest country in Latin America and the second poorest country in Central America. The country is prone to hurricanes and flooding, particularly in the areas close to the Caribbean coast. Hurricane Mitch, which hit Honduras in late 1998 caused widespread destruction of basic economic and social infrastructure, rural housing and food crops.
According to the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) one of the contributors to poverty in Honduras is fragile social conditions. “Our mission is to provide resources so that families work together to rebuild the community, as well as rebuild their own home. Keeping these families in their neighborhoods supports communities and holds their fragile cultures together” says Scott Jewett, PCS CEO. Those interested should contact:

Zipflat was developed by a volunteer team of over a dozen professionals that came
together with the common goal of giving back by building shelters and donating houses
to families in Central America. The goal was to build 10 houses. During this effort a
new construction method resulted in the creation of Zipflat.
